Most coatings survive rain. Rubberseal Black is built for water that never leaves — ponds, fountains, and concrete planters. It’s our strongest, true-waterproofing liquid rubber, and water can literally pond on the fully cured membrane.
Why Black for ponds and water features
A pond isn’t a rain event — it’s constant, standing water pressing against the surface day and night. That’s a different job from shedding a downpour, and it calls for a membrane rated for continuous water contact. Rubberseal Black rolls or trowels on cold and cures into one seamless, flexible barrier with no seams to fail. Our White and Gray coatings are excellent for roofs and exterior surfaces, but for anything that holds water, step up to Black — our strongest, true-waterproofing membrane.
A seamless membrane, not a folded liner
Flexible pond liners work, but every fold, seam, and overlap is a place a leak can start — and fitting one around ledges, planters, and irregular shapes is fiddly. A liquid-applied membrane takes the shape of whatever you coat. Rubberseal Black cures into a single continuous skin over concrete, block, or an existing hard shell, bridging hairline and shrinkage cracks as the structure moves. For repairs, it can re-seal and reinforce a cracked concrete pond without tearing everything out.

Rubberseal Black bonds to clean concrete, masonry, metal, and wood with proper preparation, and it goes over damp (not wet) concrete — seal or divert any running water first.
How it goes on
Clean and prepare the surface, then apply in multiple coats with a 3/8-inch nap roller between 50–95 °F, letting each coat dry before the next. Reinforce cracks, corners, and transitions with Rubberseal Geotextile fabric embedded between coats for a stronger, gap-free build. For waterproofing where water will stand, build to at least 60 mils dry film. You can flood-test about 24 hours after the final coat, with full cure in roughly 72 hours at 70 °F.

Surface preparation matters
Good adhesion starts with a sound, clean surface. The substrate must be structurally repaired and free of dust, oil, grease, curing compounds, and loose material. Concrete can be damp but not wet — stop or divert any active water flow before you coat. Prime or repair as needed, and reinforce joints and detail areas with geotextile fabric. Skipping prep is the most common reason any waterproofing job disappoints.
